Most compliance tools make you do the work. You look up the HS code. You cross-reference the duty rate. You check the sanctions list. You work out whether CBAM applies. You pull together the documentation. By the end of it, you've done the compliance — the tool just held the data.
The TRACE Compliance Engine works differently. Describe your shipment in plain language. The engine does the rest.
Built on live HMRC Trade Tariff, TARIC, and UK Sanctions List APIs — and structured around Tragentai's proprietary TRACE methodology — it produces a full compliance assessment in under two minutes, complete with a timestamped audit file you can download and file.
What it covers
HS Classification
10-digit commodity code determination against the live HMRC Trade Tariff. Timestamped to the API call date.
Duty & ADD Calculation
MFN duty rate, anti-dumping measures, FTA preference eligibility and total landed duty exposure in £.
Sanctions Screening
Live check against the UK Sanctions List (UKSL). Returns NONE, MATCH, or REVIEW with the data source and timestamp.
Circumvention Risk
Origin-based circumvention flag — LOW, MEDIUM, or HIGH — based on current HMRC enforcement priorities and trade patterns.
CBAM Exposure
Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism scope assessment with indicative carbon cost estimate in euros.
CDS Procedure Codes
Applicable Customs Declaration Service procedure codes generated automatically for the shipment profile.
Two modes. One decision.
The engine runs in two modes depending on what you need:
AI Advisory
Fast indicative assessment using AI reasoning. Use it for pre-shipment triage, commercial due diligence, or initial cost modelling. Results are advisory — not for declaration use.
Live APIs
Full assessment against live HMRC Trade Tariff, TARIC, and UKSL APIs. Steps 1–3 and 6–7 pull real-time data. Results are timestamped and audit-ready.
The audit file.
Every Compliance mode assessment generates a machine-readable audit file with a unique compliance ID. It records the classification, duty calculation, sanctions result, circumvention flag, CBAM status, licence determination, CDS codes, and whether human review was flagged — all timestamped to the UTC second.
The circumvention flag on aluminium from India is correct — HMRC has active enforcement focus on this trade lane following anti-dumping investigations into Chinese aluminium routed via third countries. The engine flags it not to block the shipment but to ensure it's in scope for your compliance review.
What it isn't.
The TRACE Compliance Engine is a triage and assessment tool. It is not a substitute for professional compliance advice, a licensed customs agent, or a binding tariff determination. For controlled goods, export licence applications, and BTI disputes, you still need a human expert in the loop.
That is by design. The engine handles the data layer. Tragentai handles the judgement layer. For straightforward shipments, the tool gives you everything you need to proceed with confidence. For complex or controlled goods, it surfaces the flags that tell you when to pick up the phone.
